RIGHTS RELATED TO MATERNITY AND PATERNITY

To exercise their rights related to maternity and paternity the Basque prisoners have to face this prison policy like lack of health assistance, aggressions, couples dispersed, problems and prohibition of communication, dispersal, prison staffs' and police's attitude... In this sense we must add that none of the prisons in the Basque country has modules for mothers.

Due to the imposition of the policy of dispersal, the Basque political prisoners sons and daughters, besides living the prison's harsh conditions, they cannot have a reliable doctor, less protection from relatives and in non-Basque environment. This is the situation of Intza Iturrioz Urrestarazu, Ekaitz Segurola Ibañez, Ortzadar Saez de la Cuesta y Gesala Gete Lonbide, in the prison in Soto del Real , Dueñas, Aranjuez and Valencia.

As a consequence of this dispersion, children, whose father and mother (or both) are imprisoned, need to travel thousand of miles in order to see them, with its consequence on the relationship and physically and psychologically. Those who have relatives imprisoned are also in the same situation.
